That stacktrace does not look like it is coming from a 4.13 release. I could not match the line-numbers with any release above 4.8+ |

Thank you again for your reply. yes, I guess stack trace does not belong to the 4.13 release it is running fine, and just copied the given data on the web apps folder and if I click on it shows birt homepage and after clicking on view example link it shows a fatal error.

I switched Java version 11 to 1.8 and resulted from stop working Both links that are birt 2.5.1 and 4.13 complete log entries of catalina.2023-06-12.log complete log entries of localhost_access_log.2023-06-12 I have attached log files for further reference. Thanks. |

I am using java 11. one thing I didn't understand that data was copied into web apps folder name bank does not have .war file in it so why does it display BIRT version 2.5.1. reports are in bank folder and should work with latest birt 4.13 version. |

index.jsp file is in bank folder that belongs to an older version of birt 2.5.1. should it be replaced with new version of jsp file so by doing this would it work Thanks |

I am sorry, but I do not understand what it is you are trying to do. Can you explain in detail what you have done? It sounds like you try to have two versions of Birt installed on the same Tomcat. If you are trying that: you are out of luck. All deployed web applications share the same JVM, so you will have classloading issues if you try to do that. |

Thank you for your reply. no, I am not running two different sessions on the Tomcat server. I just explained in an earlier message that I just copied data into web apps folder which is present on the other server and it has birt older version like 2.5.1. in this data folder no birt.war file is present but it is using an older version of the homepage. |

You will need to provide a detailed description of how to reproduce the encountered issue. You say in one of the comments that the stacktrace probably does not belong to a 4.13 instance since that one is "running fine". And that we should "put the data in the web apps folder that belongs to older version of BIRT" -to make it fail. If that data is needed to reproduce the error you need to provide it. |

Thank you for your reply. This is a complete status of manager apps
you can see that there is two link name birt and bank both displaying together with upper and lower direction. birt has a new version 4.13 and it successfully launched its test report.
when I come on the bank link it shows this home page
i test this example link then it shows a fatal error
so that's why said trace is not belong to 4.13 because it is working fine. according to my understanding if I put two birt.war files into different folders so Tomcat creates multiple sessions against two files. if I am mistaken on this point then please correct me. I have only one birt.war file into the web apps folder.

Looking at this setup I do not think that this is a bug. You will need to deploy your old report into the new viewer. There is information on how to do that here: If that is not an option for you, you will need to have two Tomcat instances running on the machine. One for every version of Birt that you need to use. I would go for the first option. |

I am trying to create a test report so I can check it accordingly. I wrote a simple query from sample database

No, that is not garbage. It is correct. The column HTMLDESCRIPTION contains long HTML text, so you just don't see the text in the other columns, because probably the dialog shows the cells vertically centered. |

I don't see any option under run menu which has a view report option that lets you run a report in the browser to test a report. I installed Eclipse 2023 in Rockylinux and then installed Birt reporting from Marketplace. do I need to install some other software to enable this option in Run menu Thanks. |

I am facing two issues after installing Eclipse 2023 in Linux and Windows too, Linux. I mentioned in this thread earlier that there is no run report option in browser view. Windows reports are not opened in a browser view and it displays errors like error 503 and sometimes error 500 |

Thank you all for your reply. is BIRT 4.14.0. compatible with Tomcat version 10. As we know that in the previous thread, we were trying to install BIRT 4.13 on Tomcat 10 and we ended up that this new Birt version 4.13 does not work with the new namespace of Jakarta. @merks I installed a new version 4.14 from mentioned link I just copied and paste into new software option from the help menu. after installing a new runtime birt it displayed an error 500

Given your stack trace, I don't think you really installed the latest 4.14 where we see there versions of GEF and ReportMultiBookPage will not have class cast exceptions:
Check what version of GEF is installed (in the help about dialog):
And the editor version:

got it. I deleted all files and folder manually and reinstall eclipse 2023-06 and its working fine but has not tested yet. I just downloaded a package from this link which you have mentioned above there is another executable file called birt.exe that directs opens the report designer. my question is that if this opens a reports designer then I don't need to keep eclipse 2023-06 on my pc.

It's a little odd that it has both executables! Probably something not quite right the product configuration. But indeed, as @speckyspooky says, these are self-contained products just like the downloads of packages you see here: https://www.eclipse.org/downloads/packages/ In fact, before BIRT almost died, there was a Report Designer package on that page. |

no its working fine birt 4.14
this one is not coming up with any error like 500 or some similar code that starts with 5 when I run my reports in web viewer directly from run menu. but birt 4.13 has some issue or bugs that do not let reports run in web viewer option. |

Funny that I see Eclipse 4.29 things but the 2023-06 release was Eclipse 4.28. But then, BIRT's update site pulls in all transitive dependencies, so effective the whole Eclipse Platform. Try unchecking the last two items. Otherwise create a new installation and install into it. |

BIRT 4.14 runtime is not running with Tomcat server 9. does it require the setup of tomcat server 10? I performed the same steps as I did to set up BIRT 4.13 on tomcat server 9 but it failed to run even its home page of BIRT. |

tested on two machines this one is VM and the above snapshot was given of the physical machine. both physical and VM based on Rocky Linux release 8.7 (Green Obsidian) BIRT 4.14 is not coming to running state |

I just reverted back to old setting on vm. I deleted all files of BIRT 4.14 and copy BIRT 4.13 into the same path and it's working fine and showing a state in running mode. that issue was encountered before when I first time place a BIRt 4.14 runtime folder in the web apps folder and it was showing the same state that birt and webviewexample service was not in running mode. something is conflicting with Rockylinux because this latest patched BIRT 4.14 works fine on Redhat Linux 8.8 |

sorry it was my mistake. I just checked Java version that was selected and running JDK 11 and now I switched it to JDK 17. it is working now. Thanks again for your support. |

which sections do you call multiple sessions? do you take /BIRT and /WebViewerExample both different sessions? it creates automatically sessions on the Tomcat server and Server dashboard shows two different sessions on the screen as you saw in a screenshot. and both work fine. |

This a very long (never ending) thread. I don't get the impression that your question is related to a "fatal error during engine startup" is it? There is no hint about the symptoms associated with "not working". There is not even enough information for anyone to guess what might be wrong. I don't think anyone is around who can comment on BIRT version 2.4, though I could be wrong about that... |

Thank you for your reply. yes, this is a long thread where we tried to resolve multiple solutions in it and the first question was raised for the same issue that old reports were not working on the newly built server. if it is not appropriate to ask about this issue here so I will create a new thread and close this one. I am new to BIRT and with the support of all you people I am able to run BIRT 4.14 successfully. I have assigned a task to install the latest BIRT and get all reports run successfully on this version. I am sharing the result of the error which was shown on the screen. what I did exactly I open a report file that was built on an old version in the new Birt 4.14 editor and change its version but it is not working. BIRT 2.4 BIRT 4.14
what I understood was that there is something wrong with the Java driver. could it be a reason that old reports were run with Java version 1.8 and the base machine is running Java 17 so it might conflict with an older version? |

this is the snapshot of original source file above and I have highlighted a server connection that represents a remote database server and also shows something related to the SQL JDBC driver. I just want to know that mysql.jdbc.Driver needs to be updated on this DB server. |
