Not all attributes are value expression enabled

Chapter 3.1.4 tells the following:

For the standard component classes defined by this specification, all attributes, and all properties other than id and parent, are value expression enabled.

This is confusing. Some of them accept method expressions only, such as action, listener, actionListener, valueChangeListener and validator.
