The current Lens "index pattern" datasource is a generic tool meant for use with any Elasticsearch data, but isn't always the best choice for users who are familiar with a specific solution. The way the Maps team has solved this problem is by introducing Solution Layers for APM and Security:

To define this as a problem statement: As an analyst I am already familiar with Security data, but not Elasticsearch. I would like to attach a custom visualization to my analysis workflow without learning a new set of tools.
