Parameters in Kibana:

It would be nice to add a "parameters" feature to controls. As opposed to filters that let a user choose specific values of one certain field, parameters would allow to choose between different metric or dimensions fields and visualize the choice.

Examples:

  • We have three different price levels - gross, net, and price with a special discount. The user can select different price levels in the parameter dropdown, and the choice would be reflected in the revenues charts (to avoide the need to build three similar charts for each price level individually)
  • We want to see the sales breakdown over time, and in the parameters we can choose the aggregation level - category, region, product, etc. Depending on the choice, different fields will be dynamically selected for the charts.

In addition, a parameters can include a specific list of values, with the choice being passed to a function/formula.
Example:

  • Display the revenue in different currencies depedning on the user's choice

Such a feature is available in Vega Lite or Tableau
