[Bug]: Extend support for Windows Server 2012 R2 / 8.1? #36909
Comments
Electron 23 includes Chromium 110, so there is nothing we can do here. The only thing we could consider is extending the EOL of Electron 22 support and backport those security fixes from Chromium 109 to 108, which is used there. |
According to https://chromiumdash.appspot.com/schedule, Chromium 114 to be used in Electron 25 will be released May 30, 2023. At this point Electron 22 would be normally deprecated. |
This is something for the @electron/wg-releases to decide. |
Also Chromium has started actively removing support for Windows 7 / 8 in the codebase. Examples: |
@miniak Any update on this. What has electron/wg-releases decided? |
I don't know as I am not in the @electron/wg-releases |
The timeline has been extended, and information regarding this can be found here. |

Expected Behavior
Electron is ending support for Windows 8.1 in Electron 23, because Chromium was doing the same.
Chromium has extended their support for Windows Server 2012 R2 (for security fixes) to October 10, 2023 (source), so can Electron extend the timeline as well?
