In about 3-6 months from the time of opening we should review feedback and see where we're at with this. After we get our feedback, we are supposed to build a package for the design team to look at, and also some product oversight on whether the feature is a good idea.

It's been a bit but not much feedback has been received. Will give it another few months.

a few months later it's still not seen a whole lot of feedback, but has seen some traction in various rooms. Not going to recommend its removal yet, but will let it bitrot until we know what we want to do to the area.

Providing feedback since you appear to want it. I love feature_mjolnir / new ways to ignore people and would love to see it taken out of labs.

yay, an actual piece of feedback :D

Considering your thoughts are the only thoughts I've seen, I'm tempted to consider it as motivation for keeping the feature around and possibly do those design/product steps mentioned in the description.

I kind of gave feedback at #22099 (comment)

I wish to see the feature mature as I am used to it at IRC, while it took me a long time to try it in Element as the name and description didn't connect to my IRC experience.

What it could do better:

  • It has created teo policy rooms for me, so maybe it's not tracking those well especially if they happen to be empty for a longer period.
  • I would love to be able to subscribe to lists on a bot account so to ignore users I wouldn't need to login as bot and press the traditional ignore. I have no suggestions on how that could work though.
  • It could mature from labs and affect all Matrix clients as I use FluffyChat and Hydrogen a lot.

Hi. Since I only just knew about this issue:

I consider this one of the single most greatest feature as a room admin. The old block feature removes a user entirely instead of simply hiding. As a moderator this is extremely dangerous since you lose the ability to moderate a room safely. However, with the list/mjolnir/draupnir based blocking element-web not only gives me the ability to open up blocked users message, but also I can ensure that I don't run into the moderation issue since the user also is cleared from my rooms. This allows the room to stay save while I also have the user removed from other rooms in my local client.

This is among a few other things probably on my top 5 of the best features element-web has to offer compared to the community clients that exist currently.

fyi for planning purposes: this is still on the T&S radar at Element.

This also means it's not going to improve or go away anytime soon, but there are plans to replace the functionality with different tooling over the next year or so. For now, the judgement call on whether to keep the feature around keeps happening and keeps favouring "leave it as-is for now".
