Steps to reproduce

  1. Logging into desktop Element with new element.io identity

  2. Some very limited usage, mostly DMs

  3. Encryption upgrade available prompt pops up

  4. Clicking on upgrade, it asks for my security key

  5. Clicking on continue just brings me back to the original screen

Outcome

What did you expect?

I would have expected the client to do whatever it has to do and the initial prompt to disappear, potentially showing a brief confirmation message that all is good.

What happened instead?

I feel like in a loop and I cannot resolve this.

Windows

Application version

Element version: 1.11.0, Olm version: 3.2.8

I didn't event get this notification when the event occured!
While it was all okay on element-android and other clients, element-desktop 1.1.17 did:

  1. Fail to display the new session manager, rotating the "loading" circle forever.
  2. Not send or receive direct messages, resulting in "someone's session isn't verified".
  3. Let me in any way fix the state of the client. Had to log out, log back in and reverify session from another client. Only after that the "upgrade available" popup appeared.
