What Happened?

When I plug in new audio output device (i.e. BT headphones, HDMI cable, dock with connected audio device like TV over HDMI), the audio output is not always switched correctly.
Usually the audio output is correctly selected here

but the sound actually does not come from selected device. So I have to switch to something else and then back.

Sometimes the same happens also for input device, but I don't connect nor use input audio device that often to spot it and say it is always the case.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. connect TV via HDMI
  2. observe sound settings

Expected Behavior

Switch audio output to newly connected audio device.

Nice to have would be option to select whether always connect / never connect / always ask whether to switch audio to connected device (many HDMI connected monitors do not have speakers).

OS Version

5.x (Hera)

Software Version

Latest release (I have run all updates)

Log Output

No response

Hardware Info

I am getting this on 2 models of Dell laptops, both affected. Never tried anywhere else.

BTW, this happens for a really long time. I started using ElementaryOS since Loki and it had it too. I just didn't know where/how to report it until now.
