Markdown text in ALT is not rendered #2823

I don't think it should be - alt text is for screen reader users primarily, and alt text doesnt support anything other than plain text, encouraging markup doesn't seem helpful. The extra characters would just get read out as asterisks and underscores and so on. Equally links are not supported in alt text (the actual alt text for the image, not the visible one in elk - but its the same content) and again reading out URLs would not be helpful and is not a description of the image. |
@joelanman I agree with you. I thought this was a regression as it seems to be rendered in the past but yes, it's better to encourage not to use Markdown in ALT text. I will check if there is still Markdown not-working rendering code used in the past and disable it if it exists. |
thanks! |
It looks like the example testing post I found in dev account (not written by myself) was a rejected idea in the past: #1267 So Elk has never implemented Markdown rendering for ALT description in the past and there's no need to fix. |
