Blank screen mid-rip

After a while, both my console and gamepad fate to black. After that I am unable to tell if there is progress being made, but the disk I am using still lights up.

I am using a WiiU on 5.5.1.

Pressing buttons (including 1 + 2) on the wiimote doesn't seem to do anything. Is it still ripping during this time or is it frozen?

Update: after a hard shutdown on the WiiU after about 12 hours, it seems like it was frozen as only 2MB of data was written to the disk.
