Problem Description

version 0.9.15-alpha, 7f4de75 (continuous build)
In Cognizance 5 and 6, the wrath of the Archons is mentioned, yet neither of the two Archons in Nenia joins you in destroying the Korath fleets. However, they still come out if the player attacks a void sprite, in which case they join the Korath in destroying the player's fleet. To me, this seems like a glaring inconsistency, and completely diminishes the "risk" that the Korath are taking lore-wise in hunting the void sprites.

Some dialogs that suggest that the Archons should be destroying the Korath are as follows:
"Beyond the obvious of killing void sprites and picking fights with the Archon, the Korath are a cunning foe, and they would not antagonize the Archon for no reason"
"the Korath may have decided that these semi-processed resources are useful to their survival, despite the hostility of the Archon."
"In the distance, you can see the Archon methodically pulverizing a Korath Raider."

Therefore I don't understand why the Archons don't actually attack the Korath Raiders.
The only people who have been to Nenia and been attacked have been humans, so are they perhaps racist?

Desired Solution

I'm not quite sure, since the Korath are indeed meant to be hunting void sprites, though how they can do that when there's two Archons waiting to annihilate them makes no sense.

Alternative Approaches

yeah idk

There is only one archon in that system.
Also I think it's a gameplay reason more than anything else, if the Archons do it all you have nothing to do.

That said I have the same issue you do, maybe we should add something to ask remnants like "what was the Archon doing" and they answer it was probably busy in another universe for all they know.

Hmmm... That could be a good idea.

Maybe add a few Korath ships that are targeted by the Archon? This way the archon appears and irregularly destroys korath, whilst still making the player do most of the work.

I found this incongruous the first time, but have got used to many incongruities in ES. My headcannon has been that what we see in any system is only a small slice of what's really going on in that system; conveniently arranged so the relevant bits are on-stage to us.

So, e.g. a particular pirate might be hanging out in a system, but we only see them when we have a mission for it. So, when the Archon isn't there in Nenia, he's just 'off stage', presumably pummelling some other Korath. You mentioned the brief text in the mission to this effect.

It's not perfect, because the on-stage off-stage is one of those grey areas like how does time work (takes a day to jump or land, but your escorts take no time, and story-wise you can just land and immediately take off). But perhaps if hinted at somewhere in the game, can make players more comfortable with "this thing that should be here but I can't see... is somewhere I just don't need to see it today."

Though I agree, if game mechanics support, having the Archon present but specifically targeting some Korath would be cool... then again, if he finishes first, he's just saying "Yeah! You go, ! You get them other Korath while I cheer you on!"... hmm

Potentially you run into a larger question: How much does the Archon really care about the void sprites? And what power does it have or not have to defend the whole system? The rabbit hole goes deeper....

P.S. There's two Archons in Nenia?! I shall have to look more carefully next time!
