The solution is always to upgrade Nokogiri ;p. All in all I would say gems have gotten a lot better in terms of compatibility. I remember most/least fondly of the horror of getting RMagick to work on everyone's development machine circa 2011-2012. Often having to compile ImageMagick from scratch to get everything to play nice. Nokogiri and libv8 have given similar battles. Good write up. I feel 0-day native libraries have and will continue to be a problem.

Honestly I believe the solution is to get rid of Nokogiri 😂

But yeah; gems have gotten WAY better now; still makes me feel like i'm using a century old system having to go over the same hacks and patchs to make it work but i think is a small price to pay.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
