Calculating Time Difference

James P. Duffy edited this page Jul 25, 2017 · 2 revisions

Time difference (between camera and log) is required to correctly tag photos with GPS information.

This can be obtained by doing the following:

  1. Take a photo of http://leapsecond.com/java/gpsclock.htm
  2. Load the photo onto your machine
  3. Use exiftool to look at the 'date created' on the photo
  4. Compare that time to the time shown in the photo itself alongside GPS
  5. If GPS time is ahead of camera time then the difference value is negative

Note: British Summer time seems to be discounted from time difference (at least for 3DR Solo logs).
