Any word on whether or now this exploit works on the 3rd generation Nest Thermostats? Thanks.

I have not, nor know of anyone doing this for a 3rd gen.

I haven't been in possession of a Nest for nearly a year now (let alone a 3rd gen). This project (including mine) seemed to have started and ended in 2014 DEFCON/Blackhat.
I know Luke-Jr on IRC did a ton of work on making a better toolchain environment, but not sure if he's still working towards this effort. I know I'm stuck in the same way on one of my tools (grant-h/omap_loader#1).

The bottom line is unless someone on exploiteers (formally GTVHacker), myself, or someone motivated gets a 3rd gen Nest, this won't be supported.

Also, if you didn't know, Nest released their entire toolchain and build scripts to make a completely unlocked version 4.x Nest (this doesnt include proprietary source code). Check it out: http://opensource.nest.com/NestLearningThermostat/4.x%20Opensource/nestlabs-open-source.tgz

Having that available almost makes it not worth messing around with a tool like this. No one has headed a project that utilizes this open source release to date.

Cool, thanks for the response and the link. I hadn't heard about the gen 4 stuff.

I'll close the issue.
