The current banner on the ReactJS website prompts users to "Donate to Ukraine." The request is to update this banner to reflect a call for support to Palestine instead. This change involves altering the text and possibly the visual elements associated with the banner.

React version: 18

Steps to Reproduce:

Navigate to the area displaying the "Donate to Ukraine" banner.
Identify the code responsible for rendering this banner in the ReactJS codebase.
Modify the text and any related assets to reflect the message "Support Palestine."
Ensure the changes are correctly implemented and display as intended in the application.
Expected Behavior:
After implementing the changes, the banner should now encourage users to support Palestine instead of Ukraine.

All politically aligned banners should be removed from the website, IMHO. It's better to appear neutral to avoid alienating and/or offending people.

We have to acknowledge that there are people on both sides who have experienced deep tragedy. It's hard to convey support for those affected on both sides of any major conflict with a "Support Ukraine" or "Support Palestine" banner. What about the Russian and Israeli nationals who have suffered? I think the intention is more along the lines of "Support Peace", but that's less actionable.

I'll spare you from a list of other current crises in the world. Suffice it to say, there are many groups who need support from those with resources to spare.

Of course, we should support all of these groups and many others. Perhaps a compromise might be to suggest donation to an organisation like Doctors Without Borders who work to support those in need across the planet, regardless of the political aspects of their predicament.

for your info, Palestine has been occupied for more than 75 years. you can't put their banner because they are Muslims? what about 24000 lives have been taken? 11k kids, mostly women.

I didn't say that. My point is that there are many injustices in the world, and in all, there is human suffering on all sides. Has nothing to do with any specific conflict. All of them are tragedies for the whole of humanity.

Then why Ukraine only there?

Then why Ukraine only there?

My suggestion wasn't to leave Ukraine as the banner, and I didn't mention Ukraine only in my comment - I also mentioned Palestine.

My suggestion was to remove any politically-slanted banner entirely and prompt the community to support "generic" charities, like Doctors Without Borders. In other words, my feature request would be:

Replace Support Ukraine banner with Want to support React? Donate to a charity! with a link to a list of charities with a very high ethical standard

What's happening in Ukraine and Palestine+Israel are indeed tragedies, but I would echo @psychedelicious. This is a globally renowned library used by folks on every side of every political fence, and it would probably be best to uphold a politically neutral stance.

If the objective is to call for donations to aid civilians caught in conflict, I see no issue with CTAs supporting politically neutral charities and organisations like MSF or Red Cross to name a couple. 👌

To put it simply: it is easier to position with ukraine as a U.S. company (remember that React.js is still a project owned by Meta).
Historical and cultural reasons make it easy to take position for ukraine on the western hemisphere of our planet (+a lot of other companies did/do it).

Palestine/Israel is different. There are many different opinions on this. When I recently talked about it with my friends it was very hard for us to come to an agreement. In fact, we didn't. Therefore, it is very hard for a company to take position on this topic without backfire.

That said, I think GitHub is not a place for political discussions and open source projects aren't either (like other people in this issue already said).

We are not against Ukraine. believe we also faced war from 2007-2014. I can feel your pain but I am against those who only support one side and not others.

UN already funded millions (if not billions) for Palestine people, what happened is Hamas took all of that from them.
Can't You fight internal enemy Hamas which also funded by global terrorist RF?
If people will donate for Palestine again: will it be used for people or again arm Hamas?
Why world must pay to killers?
First stop Hamas, then world will talk.

Closing this. I saw hatred of non-muslims toward Muslims even if Jews are wrong. It's not about Hamas. you can't bomb hospitals even if there are terrorists inside. 28,000+ people killed mostly children and women. If you have kids and a heart you will understand. kids and women are innocent.
