The mutable state scares me. I'm not sure how this will work out with deferred work and the separate priority flag that we'll have once that lands.

It's unfortunate that we have to compromise on the host API (custom renderers) to support this.

I'd recommend that we land this to unblock initial testing and keep working on @gaearon's new API that we know will work once we turn on time sliced work etc.

Looks like you have some travis errors though.

@sebmarkbage are you referring to the mountContainer and updateContainer APIs changes to take in the optional parentComponent?

@iamdustan Yea.

While facebook#8368 added a version of `ReactDOM.unstable_renderSubtreeIntoContainer()` to Fiber, it is a bit hacky and, more importantly, incompatible with Fiber goals. Since it encourages performing portal work in lifecycles, it stretches the commit phase and prevents slicing that work, potentially negating Fiber benefits.

This PR adds a first version of a declarative API meant to replace `ReactDOM.unstable_renderSubtreeIntoContainer()`. The API is a declarative way to render subtrees into DOM node containers.
