Two options:

with Aiofiles library: https://github.com/Tinche/aiofiles
run_in_executor: https://docs.python.org/3/library/asyncio-eventloop.html#asyncio.loop.run_in_executor

Ok, reading the implementation of Aiofiles, its just wrapping the function calls in run_in_executor. So let's not add a third party dependency..
