Describe the bug
After upgrading from version 35.20220117.0 to version 35.20220128.0 I experience the following issues:

  1. No sound and/or the sound card doesn't seem to be recognized.
  2. A lot of (GTK) applications don't start anymore.

To Reproduce

  1. Run version 35.20220117.0 of Fedora Silverblue
  2. Upgrade to version 35.20220128.0

Expected behavior
Sound card should be recognized and all GTK applications should start normally.

Let me know which commands I have to run to give you more information about my system!
In the meantime, I will do a rollback: version 35.20220117.0 worked without any issues.

Just to add that I'm also finding some issues since... some time (I believe the problems started longer than 13 days ago; it was around the "polkit" issue, which I issue a rpm-ostree upgrade soon after seeing the messages of "update your distro").

Edit: The last "good" configuration, as shown in grub, is 35.20220117.0

Current issues include:

  • No sound card;
  • Massive flickering on Wayland (really visible with Alacritty);
  • Flatpak applications do not appear in the application launcher; running flatpak run org.mozilla.firefox returns an error that "/var/lib/flatpak/exports/share" and "/var/home/myuser/.local/share/flatpak/exports/share" are not in XDG_DATA_DIRS.

Attached is the journalctl since last reboot.

If that helps, the computer is a Dell XPS 13 (three years ago model; sorry, can't remember the proper model number)

I'm not sure if this is a coincidence, but I also have a Dell XPS 13!
On my other (work) laptop, a HP laptop, I don't have any problems.

I believe this is a duplicate of #234.

Workaround mentioned in #234 (comment) has worked for the poster and me.

Unfortunately, I wasn't so lucky: XDG_DATA_DIRS is still incomplete and the flickering continues.

Edit: Hold on. I think I missed a part on how Silverblue works, 'cause I tried the workaround in the version that actually works.

Edit 2: Trying the steps in the "problematic" version actually fixed the issue. No flickering, sound and XDG_DATA_DIRS now works.

Thanks for the tip @HarryMichal !

I had very similar issues after upgrade from 35.20211229.0 to 35.20220210.0 (no sound devices, unable to connect with bluetooth devices nor pair new ones, some applications and command being very slow). I discussed it with @HarryMichal and https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fedora-silverblue/troubleshooting/#_selinux_problems was the solution for me.

And this worked for me too 🎉 !!

If I'm not mistaken you are encountering this issue https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2042157 ?

Likely due to an outdated SELinux policy. Closing as we have fixes in rpm-ostree & SELinux utils for that now.
