I'm trying to install httpmonitor 0.5 but I receive a warning saying that the extension is not compatible with Firefox 12. Only Firefox 13 and above?

The remote HTTP monitoring requires Firefox 13, but with couple of small changes it would be possible to use HTTP monitor on Firefox 12 for local HTTP monitoring.

If you interested in Fx12 support I can help you to do a patch.
