This has been going on for a while, but it's finally getting annoying enough for me to make an issue, haha.
ExternalDisplayBrightness stops working frequently, and I believe it happens whenever my Mac goes to sleep (or possibly even only puts the displays to sleep, which happens before the disk goes to sleep in my setup). The only way to make it work again is to open the app's window, manually quit it, and relaunch it.
This basically means that a large portion of the time - almost all the time - I'm running ExternalDisplayBrightness it's not actually working at all.
How can I help get this issue fixed?
macOS version: 11.0 Beta
Mac model: 2018 MacBook Pro 15" Vega 20
External monitor(s): 2x LG Ultrafine 5K

I am having the same issue on macOS Monterey. After my Mac sleeps and I change the external display, the ExternalDisplayBrightness app keys no longer work. When I press them, the computer makes a beep indicating those keys don't do anything. Quitting and re-opening ExternalDisplayBrightness does not fix this. I think the only way to fix this is by restarting. How to prevent this bug from happening? @fnesveda
Same here on Monterey 12.4 on MacBook Pro 16 (2019) and DELL U2720Q. I used to work fine many month ago. but lately the function keys stop working for the external DELL. Quitting and re-opening ExternalDisplayBrightness does fix this in my case - which is a release ;)
Hoping for an update or fix :) thanks a million for that very helpful app which should be something apple should include in the os since they have not offered any (affordable) displays for so many years...
