@tmorrell has been working on using codemeta files in software that is submitted to the Caltech research data repository. These files can be used to generate default metadata that populates the form for a submitter. (This is a similar workflow to how code can be archived in zenodo from github, and ideally, could use the same mechanism)

The code for this is located in https://github.com/caltechlibrary/ames. Still working on putting this into production and writing up an announcement. It's most useful for automating author lists.
