Hi,

I met forem 4 days ago and it drew my attention, but I am actually a PHP developer so I am newbie to Ruby on rails. First I thought forem is like WordPress we can easily install it and use it for our own purpose. I tried to install forem on my Linux VPS server but I have faced so many issues even though I have followed all the instruction on documentation. Eventually, I have successfully installed it.

But the problem is, Currently forem is in development environment and there is no proper documentation for changing forem as production environment in forem documentation. I tried to change it as much as I can but I can't do that.

Can Forem currently be used in a VPS server production environment? Or is it only available for localhost development?

Yes, you can run Forem on a VPS in production. It does require you to have a working understanding of how a Ruby on Rails app works and the process for deploying and keeping Forem up to date isn't the greatest right now. Also, you are correct, the documentation on getting Forem going in production is very lacking as well.

The good news is that we are looking to streamline the FOSS self hosted experience in the next quarter or so. This will help people that want to run Forem on their own server in production mode. This should come with better documentation and automation to help deploy a Forem on a cloud provider or locally on a server.

In the short term, there isn't much for us to give you right now, but it is something that myself and our other Systems Engineers are working on for our FOSS community users.

Hey @reezanahamed Thanks for the question here. Given Joe's information above I am going to close this issue. Documentation around Forem setups is on our radar and we hope to make it clearer in the near future.
