Ability to opt out of moderation notices #956
Comments
@markerikson I'll remove you from those notifications and you're absolutely right that there should be a way to opt-in. |
Thanks. dev.to is great and y'all are doing some cool things, but I've already got enough notification spam to deal with on things that I'm actively involved in :) |
Alllllll good. You shouldn't be receiving them anymore! If you do, definitely ping me. |
Thanks for contributing to this issue. As it has been 90 days since the last activity, we are automatically closing the issue in 7 days. This is often because the request was already solved in some way and it just wasn't updated or it's no longer applicable. If this issue still requires attention, please respond with a comment. Happy Coding! |
Not stale; I think we should still allow moderators to opt-in/opt-out of this. |

@jessleenyc would it be possible to also turn off the notifications for me while this feature is not implemented? |
@jvanbruegge I'm just seeing this. Looks like you're also the moderator of a couple of tags. Removing your trusted role might break your tag mod experience. I'll look into if that's the case, but if it is --- would you rather continue being a mod and get those notifications or stop being a mod and stop the notifications? Perhaps while I'm looking into it, I can just add this setting..but in case I don't, let me know what you'd prefer! |
@vaidehijoshi full RFC or not? I always expect an opt-out option for these things so I could throw it in the bug category myself and keep the issue. |
I see this being a very straightforward, XS-sized RFC. Should be easy enough to implement, but we'll want to keep our refactoring of all user settings in mind here. |
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
At some point in the last few months, I began receiving notifications that asked me to provide moderation feedback on existing comments. I think the original message I got said that specific members had been picked or had this enabled, and each actual notification includes the phrase "As a trusted member, could you react to this comment so we know it fits our community code of conduct? ".
I'm not particularly active on dev.to, and when I do visit, I don't want to be confronted with a bunch of moderation notices.
Describe the solution you'd like
At a minimum, there should be a setting to turn off moderation requests. Even better, moderation should be opt-in, not auto-enrollment.
