Is it possible to use font-awesome-sass in a Compass project, without Rails?

Is it possible to use in a Ruby/SASS project without Compass or Rails?

If so, can this be documented somewhere?

Added to the README the with gem supports Rails and Compass at this time. I am looking into support other envs soon.
