I'd like to use this issue to start a discussion on people's thoughts on the survey so the next year's survey can be even better! If you need a refresher on the questions asked, you can see them here.

Some points that can be discussed (but not limited to) are:

  • Do you think any of the questions can be asked better or were confusing? How would you improve it?
  • Are there questions not in the survey you would have wanted asked?

If you see a question or comment on the survey you really liked, please use the GitHub reactions for us to gauge what questions or comments we should consider in the future.

Questions:

  • Why did you start learning coding?

Features:

  • Add answer "None / I don't know / Not sure" to all questions.
  • Add maximum values to all numeric open questions, so participants cannot enter implausible results.

Fixes:

  • Make sure that all participants fully understand each question. For example, the question about expected salary for the first developer job confused lots of people, because in some countries is used annual system, but in many other countries is used monthly system.
  • Expand the answers for questions like Podcasts to cover the all range of popular answers.

Goals:

  • Get enough data about users to adjust the whole learning process to their needs and abilities, which will lead to greater user experience, higher productivity, motivation and effectiveness of all students.
  • Personalize the learning process for students from different groups divided by parameters like country, native language, age, goals, experience in other languages, hours a week spend learning, etc.

@erictleung excellent to take this step! An FCC Forum application will be opened in the next few days... this is an excellent question for that forum!
