Frescobaldi 3.3.0 for Mac arm M1 (either packaged download from git or via homebrew), just hangs at start up. I tried it when I had Ventura, and also now with Sonoma, same results . App will start and the main window appears (after the usual clicking of the dock icon) but can't do anything. Hover over the menu area (Frescobaldi menu does not show) and just see the spinning beach ball. Opening the force quit menu, it shows as not responding. I don't see any related messages in the console logs and don't know where or if you write your logs. With Sonoma, I am using lilypond 2.24.2 by un-taring the packaged app tarball and dragging the folder straight away to Applications. When I tried Frescobaldi 3.3.0 on Ventura, it was an older 2.20.0 version of lilypond. I was able to install the packaged Frescobaldi 3.1.2, point it to the lilypond 2.24.2 binary, and it worked fine. Oh, and you really shouldn't be using PyQt5 anymore. I've used PySide6 for several sophisticated projects. It's much more stable and has been official for 3 years now. Probably a heavy lift, but Qt5 will continue to bite you until you upgrade.

See #1704 (I will close this issue as a duplicate, discussion can continue there).

Yes, we know. See #1407. Porting is a large effort and we have very limited volunteer resources (which are already largely sucked up by packaging problems especially on macOS).

@jeanas jeanas closed this as not planned Won't fix, can't repro, duplicate, stale Nov 6, 2023
