[i18nl10n] seems to replace the addLanguageToUrl setting with its own solution (thus it is not deteced by the simple_news_urls extension) and when that extension is installed, any simple news URL without the language fragment seems to cause a 404 instead of a redirect to the URL with the language fragment.
