Hello! This project is a lifesaver! I was wondering whether it would be possible to apply some sort of overlay over inactive windows, like you can in compton (a compositor for X11). Apologies if this is a more inane question; I am not used to Windows.

With AutoHotkey, theoretically yes, but practically no, since adjusting the overlay to the window when it moves would be laggy and not very pleasant. I don’t know of any function DWM, the Windows window manager, provides.

What I do, is I select a poppy colour for the border of the active window, it works quite well in red, and is directly supported by the window's customization settings.
Otherwise, I think display fusion offers exactly what you want, but it's pricey for this simple feature
