In particular, use other files to define the (named) handler functions, and then require and use them from other files. This might make it easier for them to conceptualize good separation of concerns.
We could even begin doing it as early as the first HTML/CSS lessons - that would allow us to incorporate the .gitignore step into our GH Pages directions.
