AUTO is an undocumented internal function and should not be used directly.

Instead DeclareAutoreadableVariables should be used.

Even better would be IMHO to not use this little-known and somewhat "magic" (as in: completely opaque and mysterious for most GAP users) feature at all; but that'd take more work
