Hi, it has been almost a year since the last Forge release. Would it be possible to release a new version?

I talked to @garethr on twitter back in May, and he said a release would be coming soon. there has been increased activity in merges since then, so hoping it's in the works.

I'm beginning to wonder if the community has moved on to puppetlabs/docker_platform?

That's just a downstream mirror of this repository. I specifically asked Gareth on Twitter if we should use this repository, or if it was being replaced by the puppetlabs/docker_platform, and he said that this was the upstream source. (Gareth works for Puppet and leads the work on all the DevOps stuff they're doing).

As of this point, I'm going to maintain my fork, closing/addressing most of the pressing issues in this repository with patches. I'll work on some of the changes due to the docker 17.06 release this weekend and try to get a release by Monday.

I'll submit PR's for each back upstream as well, but I've given up on really counting on them to be reviewed in a timely manner. I've been poking maintainers/owners for 6 months straight now, and each time it winds up getting a day or two of activity out of the maintainers, then silence resumes...

Also, docker-compose (v1.9.0) is still a bit old in this module if I'm not mistaken. The current version is 1.15.0 according to their GitHub repo. Would be nice if this could be updated and included in a new release. Very soon, preferably.

a new forge release would be nice

Reading this thread it may be time to head on over to LongLiveCHIEF's version (sounds like he's maintaining a branch).

One thing to note, the last release is over a year ago, yet the master branch is only a few months old and includes docker::swarm and other functions that would be be REALLY nice to have.

Hmm not a word from @garethr since this issue has been opened.
Should this module be maintained by voxpupuli ?

Hello everyone. I've been working on some of the problems with the latest releases of docker and compatibility with this module, and i've finally published an early version of the hackerhappyhour/docker forge module.

This started off life as a fork of this repo, and i'm going to be actively maintaining it at https://github.com/HackerHappyHour/hackerhappyhour-docker.

I added it to my "Hacker Happy Hour" org instead of my personal namespace, to make it easier to all collaborators and contributors. The HackerHappyHour org accepts any requests to join, and I'll accept any new collaborators who wish to help maintain this module.

Over the new few weeks i'll be working on merging PR's from this repo over into the master branch of HHH/docker, and will likely have a new minor release ready at least once a week for the next month or so. The 1.x.x releases will be designed as drop-in replacements for garethr/docker, and you should be mostly compatible with your existing manifests.

I intend to release a 2.x.x before end of year, and this will not be compatible with existing class {'docker':} resources. That release will have streamlined this module, updated it with new features, and removed many of the old parameters that are no longer relevant to the docker daemon, client, or tooling.

If you'd like to become a maintainer, there are a few ways to make the request:

If I have some time I will try to help

I believe the reason this repo has stagnated is because puppetlabs recently release a new module onto the forge. It seems to be based on this one. https://forge.puppet.com/puppetlabs/docker

According to binford2k:
There's now a supported module, https://forge.puppet.com/puppetlabs/docker
Pretty sure that garethr_ just needs to get around to deprecating his.
