can't selfupgrade

$ bin/gpm selfupgrade

first I got
[RuntimeException] unlink (/apps/www/grav/bin/grav): Permission denied
but I sorted that out with $ sudo chown -R nigel www

now I get
[RuntimeException] rename (/apps/www/grav/cache/tmp/Grav-blahblah/grav-update/bin/,/apps/www/grav/bin): Cross-device link

Any ideas?
