Make files tabs variable length

I am usually opening multiple files and the needs for scrolling to traverse files is very annoying. I want to reduce the tabs width instead. How to do that? Needs to change a config or css?

I am already a developer so if you guide me I can make changes to code too.

GTK docs don't show a programatic way of controlling the tab width, you could try with CSS.

But many users with large number of files open use the documents tab of the sidebar for navigation, as the filenames are one line each it holds more than the tabs that are all on one line.
