MIX and PC Format breaking build

When I use gulp-ref-hash along with gulp-useref, I am getting error. No error message, but its not updating index.html file with new file names.

On investigating I found gulp-ref-hash creates a file of MIX format. If I open it and save it which leads to changing of file type to PC format, and then execute gulp-useref on it it works.

Difference between MIX and PC format is of 4 bytes. Its strange problem. Please help.

I am using MAC machine.
