Option to collapse threads #2022
Comments
I don't think this is possible given how timelines work/posts are loaded. |
Would it be possible to at least collapse all the toots belonging to the same thread that would otherwise anyway appear in the timeline? I think this would already solve 99% of my problem. |
Glitch doesn't differentiate between replies and threads yet, but you could turn on automatic collapsing for replies in the "App settings". That should help in the meantime. |
Pitch
I have a few people I follow who regularly post long threads (sometimes of over 50 toots). While I enjoy reading this kind of longer-form content, it messes up my timeline because (1) it takes a long time to scroll past all the toots in the thread and (2) the toots are displayed in anti-chronological order. Hence I suggest an option to collapse threads, which would only show the first toot in the thread together with an indicator of how many replies are being hidden.
(I know that Mastodon has no internal concept of a "thread", but for the purpose of this feature request it can be considered to be a series of replies by the same author.)
Motivation
Anyone who follows people that are posting long threads could benefit from this. The authors of these threads would also benefit since people would be less likely to un-follow them. And since it would be an optional feature, people who don't want it would not suffer any negative effects.
