The corporate environment structuring has undergone many changes in recent times. There have been numerous elements that are added in to the workplace management system with a special importance related workforce management. The employee base of a company is one of the most important pillars which drives the productivity of the organization and secures the future success of the same. Hence many experts have talked about employee engagement, learning culture, employee benefits and such like. However, in recent years another important factor has caught many eyes, which is the mental health condition of an employee and well being of the same. The fast paced lifestyle has taken its toll on working population across the globe. Pressure to deliver and excel at work along with all time connectivity has created unwanted stress on the employees. This gradually decreases the productivity levels and impacts mental health conditions in the long run. Every organization works towards employee retention and addressing this matter is an essential approach towards resolving this issue. An HR agency can also be helpful in this regard. There are certain measures that address mental health and well being at workplace at the basic yet effective level.

  • Flexible working hours is the most fundamental step in this case. As human beings we cannot be expected to be all productive at a certain span of the day round the year. Instead of compelling people to work within a single time frame every day, certain amount of flexibility should be present. This eases out the stress and the employee can work in a relaxed mode.
  • In many cases there is a stigma about mental health disorders that are related to depression. Employees feel shy to discuss such issues out in public with the fear of isolation. But an open culture should be promoted within work environment where people talk about such experiences so that information is shared and it can be prevented on a large scale within a company.
  • Policies and programmes related to mental health and well being should be practiced within the organization from time to time. There should be a monitoring system that performs regular interactions with the employees in order to keep a close eye on stress and depression signs.
  • A special interaction session should be designed for managers who supervise day to day productivity. They interact with the employees more frequently than management or HR professionals. Hence they can flag a situation at the earliest so that necessary measures can be taken in such cases.
  • Supporting the employees who are returning to work after a period of mental illness is very important. It needs to be understood that the state of mind of such employees remains very fragile and needs to be handled carefully. Trained professionals can be helpful in such scenarios.

In current work environment, stress, depression and anxiety are most common reasons of employee productivity deterioration and resignation. It needs to be addressed on urgent basis with proper measures to curb this problem.
