MyGLOS for Aquahacking 2017 #7

Follow-up e-mail thread added by Tad - provides additional context (long) From: Tad Slawecki Ponnu, I'm thinking that you're looking for a mapping API that would allow you to add custom layers to the GLOS data portal. Unfortunately, this is not currently even on our development roadmap. We provide access to data through WMS, SOS, TDS, and ERDDAP endpoints may be of use. Feel free to give me a call ... 734 821 3122 Tad From: Kumaraswamy Ponnambalam ponnu@uwaterloo.ca Thanks James. I am copying Tad as well who is with GLOS. Do you know GLOS? http://www.glos.us/http://www.glos.us/ We are also talking to them (for some reason their login doesn't work now but Tad is talking to me) and we hope to able to project on maps data similar to theirs (and yours; for example I might be interested some routing algorithm as well, not sure at what stage of the project at the moment) and also link to data bases in their portals which might be needed our models running in the background. They also have models but not sure if users can query such that they run in the background and answer. I am thinking of two sorts of queries where the users get quick answers (like your routes) and some because it involves large cpu time intensive modelling the users get their answers after some time. Let me know if you can provide me the other alternative to your API if necessary. Thanks. Yes my son is in BCN (neuroscience) but is also a track athlete (they won the CIS gold last year) and he is enjoying it all so far. Best wishes From: James McCarthy The University’s open data API is limited to data about the campus and services on it. What kind of data were you looking to host? There are other alternatives to the University’s API for hosting data like this. If I know what you’re looking to host I may be able to recommend something. I’m not familiar with Octave but a quick look at documentation shows me that Python has an Octave module you can import. I find Python is a nice language for stitching together inputs and outputs from various programs so I’m sure it will work for you. You talk about needing to be able to output tables and graphs…are these to go in reports/documents or to be hosted in some sort of interactive application. And I’m glad to hear your son is at UWindsor. It’s a great school with lots of good programs. James From: Kumaraswamy Ponnambalam Hi James, I am involved in helping some students do Aquahacking 2017 competition. It looks like the Open Data API etc may be quite the right tool to use. Is it possible to add different kinds of data (like text, short videos) and also we need to output tables and graphs. In the background we need to run our models in other software like octave, etc. Can Python be used for this project to glue various items? I saw your web page : https://jamesmccarthy.ca/https://jamesmccarthy.ca/ By the way, my son goes to UWindsor and I hope he will be doing something exciting like you in the future :) Thanks. From: James McCarthy Thanks for your interest. Let me know if you have any further questions. I’m the main developer of the application and I’d be happy to fill in any details that weren’t covered by the help page. Cheers, From: ENV Help From: Kumaraswamy Ponnambalam Ok I got some info from your page help. THanks. From: Kumaraswamy Ponnambalam I am Prof Ponnambalam of Systems Design Engineering. I am interested in knowing what tools (software/hardware) I need to build something like the goose watch you have built. It is nice! Can a phone app be developed for these to upload photos, short videos as people see? Thanks. |

I have a team working on Aquahacking 2017 whose objective is to Citizen Science with Lake Erie. https://2017.aquahacking.com/en/challenge/
Is there a timeline for us to be able to login and use MyGlos. Can we use it as an alternative to Mymaps of Google?
Thanks.
Ponnu
Tad's Response:
I am not sure what features you are looking for in MyGLOS. Could you provide more information about the capabilities of Mymaps that you are looking to use?
