How to Convert XRD Files with ConvX

XRD files are data files that contain information about the X-ray diffraction patterns of materials. XRD files can be generated by different instruments and software, such as Rigaku, Bruker-AXS, DiffracPlus, etc. However, not all XRD files are compatible with each other or with other analysis tools. Therefore, you may need to convert XRD files to different formats depending on your needs.

How to Download ConvX

ConvX is available for download on the X-Ray Structural Characterization Facility website[^1^] or on the CCP14 website[^3^]. You can also find the program on the computers in the X-Ray facility in the �XRD Applications� folder.

To download ConvX from the X-Ray Structural Characterization Facility website[^1^], follow these steps:

  1. Go to https://ncmn.unl.edu/xray/files.
  2. Scroll down to the Files section and click on ConvX.exe.
  3. Save the file to your desired location.

To download ConvX from the CCP14 website[^3^], follow these steps:

  1. Go to http://ccp14.cryst.bbk.ac.uk/ccp/web-mirrors/convx/.
  2. Click on Download ConvX.
  3. Save the file to your desired location.

How to Use ConvX

To use ConvX to convert XRD files, follow these steps:

  1. Run ConvX.exe by double-clicking the icon.
  2. Under File(s) to Convert, set File Type to the format of your input files. For example, if you have Rigaku files, select Rigaku Raw; if you have Bruker-AXS files, select DiffracPlus Raw; etc.
  3. Select the Files for conversion by clicking on Browse. You can use the Ctrl- and Shift keys to select multiple files at once.
  4. Under Output File Format, select the format of your output files. For example, if you want to convert your files to GSAS format, select GSAS Raw; if you want to convert your files to FullProf format, select FullProf Raw; etc.
  5. Select the Output Directory by clicking on Browse. This is where your converted files will be saved.
  6. Click on Convert. A progress bar will show you how much of the conversion is done.
  7. When the conversion is finished, you can find your converted files in the Output Directory.
