Commit 4980d68 introduced the use of SSL_CTX_set_custom_cli_ext which is only available in development versions of OpenSSL: openssl/openssl@a398f82

Do we have an alternative that we could use in the meantime? I'd rather not have to compile OpenSSL from scratch...

You can now build and use most of the functionality without a dev OpenSSL.
