Someone in Hawaiʻi wrote to me and noted that 0x02BB ʻ - the "turned comma" spacing modifier letter, or ʻokina, used in the word Hawaiʻi - is not available in our latin-ext subsets.

$ grep 02BB tools/encodings/*nam
$

We should include it in latin-ext :)

https://jsbin.com/menawivele/edit?html,output shows that with the text API (also see announcement blog post) we can still access this for fonts that have it:

If we can go a step further: the representation of the okina in Tahitian hesitates between an old practice (0x02BB ʻ) and a more modern practice (0x02BC ʼ). If 0x02BB ʻ is included, could 0x02BC ʼ be included also?

Uzbek (its latest Latin orthography that is now the official one in Uzbekistan) also needs U+02BB and U+02BC. I've added them to the 'latin' set.

It would be really useful if the 0x02BB ʻ - the "turned comma" character was added to the Google fonts.

Hawaiian is one of two official languages in the State of Hawaii but without support for both the macron (e.g., U+0101 "Latin small letter a with macron") and the okina (0x02BB ʻ - the "turned comma") a non-compliant font simply can't be used to create any official state documents.

Perhaps it's my type-tech ignorance showing but I think that in most cases, the normal opening single quote glyph could be used without modification, just copied into the correct table position – a quick and easy modification that would produce huge benefits for those of us in Hawaii.

These characters have been added to the Latin glyphset, and seem to work now.
