Hi there, Nearby is available as part of the Google Play Services SDK on Android. You can find instructions on how to use it here: https://developers.google.com/nearby/connections/overview

Nice, but it would be nice if non-google'd (pure AOSP/LineageOS or LineageOS+microG) people could use it too 👀

Ah, unfortunately we don't support this. It should be possible to build the code from this repo for Android, however, we don't have any mediums implemented, so it wouldn't be very useful. You could write your own mediums (basically hooking this library up to Android's wifi/bluetooth APIs), but we don't have any documentation written on how to do this yet.

If anyone is interested in writing their own mediums, I'm happy to try and answer any questions/point you in the right direction. However, I've never written a medium before, so I might not be much help 😬
