Rendering B/W Bitmap instead of PNG

Hello,

Instead of a PNG File i'd prefer to have Black n White bitmap to directly display on E-Paper screens.
Sadly my coding skills aren't good enough to find out what renderer is used and how to config it. Any tipps?

on another hand using an webp image instead of PNG could reduce image size by about 60%

Thanks for your suggestions, they look very promising.

However, it sounds these changes won't be trivial because it's not only about switching the output format but to adding support for all of them (through configuration or similar); and as those aren't our main priority for now (no directly part of our current use cases) we're probably not going to be able to spend time there, at least in the short term.

That being said, I'm happy to leave it open just in case any other external contributor wants to work on this.
