I'm doing a POC on Grafana Loki in SSD mode, and considering which store to use. The store docs recommends boltdb-shipper for Loki v2.0+, and does not include TSDB as a supported store. The TSDB docs seems to suggest using TSDB for Loki v2.8+. These two pages contradicts each other.

Describe the solution you'd like
Assuming TSDB is the recommended store for v2.8.0+:

  1. Add TSDB to store docs, "recommended for v2.8.0+"
  2. Change boltdb-shipper docs recommendation to "recommend for v2.0.0 to v.2.7.x)
  3. Add docs to compare boltdb-shipper v TSDB

At this point, there is little information to decide which store to use. Owen's blog post explains the architecture of TSDB. It does not compare TSDB with boltdb-shipper. Though an interesting read, the blog post does not help developers decide which solution to use.

Describe alternatives you've considered

  • Learn Go to understand boltdb docs
