Hello,

Can we have a 1.18.x branch in this repo that would contain?

golang/go#55950

This is for the Prometheus LTS branch.

I created branch speedup-go1.18 with that commit. Also main-go1.18 for consistency (identical code to Go 1.18 regexp package)
