The OSM community corrected all of this tagging for all of Germany, hence the change in the rendering will not be visible in Germany but effectively prevent this tagging-habit in the future.
We should probably discuss this issue more generally. #3876 complains about the opposite issue. #3878 will restore the rendering of landuse=residential on points, since it was removed unintentionally, but it's worth considering if this is a good idea.
On the one hand, mapping landuse=residential as a node with a name is a perfectly reasonable way to represent a housing complex which has not yet been mapped as an area (perhaps there is no good aerial imagery available), and similarly landuse=retail with a name could map the center of a named retail district. Both of there are not the same thing as a place=neighborhood.
But on the other hand, it's more useful to map such features as areas.
Don't render name of nodes with landuse=residential
This will encourage mappers to use the correct mapping-habits.
landuse=residential is a tag that should only be used on areas, not on nodes (Wiki).
An example of a false use of this tag can be see here (Node 303595663)
