Pedestrian crossings with traffic signals not rendered

Hi,
nodes tagged with highway=crossing & crossing=traffic_signals do not currently appear to be rendered (although I thought they used to be).
Would it be possible to update this?, or is there a reason against doing so?

I don't think it's a good idea to render these nodes with a traffic signal icon similar to highway=traffic_signals. This might be fine for a single signalled crossing, but for complex junctions this results in a cluster of traffic signals.
If we really want to show crossings, I prefer a rendering similar to the French style: http://tile.openstreetmap.fr/?zoom=20&lat=49.01049&lon=8.3876&layers=B0000000FFFFFF. But that is probably a bit more difficult than just showing a traffic signal icon.
