I travel a lot by train and would like to know which track I need to get to before the train leaves.

Therefore, I would very much like to have the tracks at stations immediately visible in the standard view. This is very important especially for large stations like Munich or Berlin from my point of view.
For orientation would be extremely helpful. Maybe this could be done with another layer. But I think that very few standard users know how to use layers.

Please use descriptive issue titles, based on the example this seems to be about rendering railway=platform_edge (https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:railway%3Dplatform_edge) - changing title accordingly.

railway=platform_edge with ref is used 5730 times at the moment, predominantly in Germany, Danmark, Switzerland and Austria. Use is small compared to railway=platform, public_transport=stop_position and other options to tag track numbers (see #4662 (comment)). It is, however, also a fairly clean and well defined system without the inherent ambiguities in many of the other tagging schemes (in particular with the ref vs. local_ref confusion).

Related to #4662/#4800.
