Hi,

What is the software/data licence on mcc-codes? I would like to use it in another open source project (https://github.com/jseutter/ofxparse) if it has a public licence (e.g. mit license, etc).

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

This information is culled from several sources, each of which have a unique copyright claim in the footer of their site. However:

  1. Two of those sources are a federal government agencies (i.e. the IRS and friends) so their work is automatically not copyright-able (see this article, for example)
  2. The other source has copied the work of the federal government and slapped their own copyright on it. Hardly valid.

In my opinion it would be proper to multi-license the information and people who want to use it can choose. I think probably Public Domain makes the most sense. Would that work for you?

Sounds great! Once you add the public domain to the repo, I'll add it to the ofxparse. Also, can you add the source location urls?

Thanks for your help!

Fixed with a1b49bf

Here's the story of why/how I created this mcc code set and where I got the data.
