This morning I plugged the ESP USB adapter directly into a USB port on a PC and the ESP board and the RS232-TTL converter both came to life and have been on continuously for some time. The generator bridge and its temperature sensors are online in ESP Home. I've checked the integrity of the ATX cabling to the ESP/converter and everything appears to be sound--good electrical conductivity from the plug to the ESP and converter. Is there a generator setting that may be turning off the 5 volt power at the ATX plug? Any thoughts on how to trouble shoot this problem are appreciated greatly! Thank you. |

I've been having lots of problems with the kit once I got everything working inside my house. When I went to install the completed kit on my generator (24 KV Generac with Evolution 2 controller), the board would power up & everything showed up in HA as expected. Within a few minutes, however, the board appeared to be dead (red LED went out on the board and it dropped WiFi). I removed the ATX connector from the generator, plugged it back in, but no love.
I then moved the kit back into the house & powered it up with a USB connector & everything looked fine (obviously no generator data, but the temperature sensors were working). Recalling the comments from an earlier discussion that on D1 minis the power connection from the pins was different and less reliable than the USB connector, I removed the 5V & ground pin connectors on the ESP32 and soldered in a USB connector.
Once again, everything looked great when powered up in the house. So, outside I went. I connected the revised kit to he generator & once again, everything looked great. However, 5 minutes later, everything was dead again.
I'm using a MELIFE ESP32 kit, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0811KLGDD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1. I'm wondering if their is something that's unreliable with the board's power management.
I'm also using this RS232-TTL converter: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BJJ3TZR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Has anyone else had this problem? Are there preferred components to the ones I'm using?
Thanks for your help & suggestions!
