from ODOT:

  • We are curious if the modules and other github materials will ultimately be available as R libraries or if the plan is to host them on GitHub indefinitely
  • Wondering about how the install directions will be laid out in the future and if the idea will be to create a wrapper or some other kind of batch process to make it easier on folks less familiar with R

response:

  • yes, eventually a more user friendly set of resources will be available, but for now, we're focused on the VE developer, which assumes sufficient knowledge of R to run the install commands in the READMEs.

I think that when we get to the point that there are about half a dozen modules, we should put prebuilt packages in the repo. These would be windows build only. Mac and Linux users would need to build their own. Also, the early packages show how packages can be customized with regional data. This is an important concept of VisionEval and one that reviewers need to pay attention to. That is why packages take a while to build. Perhaps we should have a simple users guide on how to build packages from source files using R Studio.

We'll plan to do this as part of the user-oriented development work related to the GUI/visualizer/documentation.
